Bah Humbug! It’s Earth Day

I remember celebrating Earth Day as a kid and it seemed pretty cool. It did make me more aware of thinking about the earth, environment and pollution. It probably gave me some appreciation for creation.

These days Earth Day seems more like a Hallmark Holiday… No… It’s more like Black History Month. It’s a day that we set aside for the earth so we don’t feel so bad about raping her the other 364 days.

I don’t mind churches and organizations using today as a chance to talk to people about issues that they normally don’t… or can’t. The problem is that we wait for this day to talk about it. Churches should be tackling issues of caring for creation and good stewardship all the time. It should be part of who we are as the people of God.

I should probably use Earth Day to be more positive and encouraging about promoting these issues. I should be… but I’m not. Feel free to tell me what you really think in the comments. I can take it.
